AMANDA PHILLIPS

Amanda Phillips is an award-winning independent choreographer, director and filmmaker. Her extensive body of Australian and Intercultural works have been presented worldwide. In the past decade, Phillips has created over 25 works across Dance, Theatre, Film and Installation, expressing her commitment to inter-cultural collaboration and the exploration of performance spaces.

She holds a Masters of Dance (Laban Centre, London) and has worked prolifically in London, Europe and Asia, representing Australia at a high level. She is a Churchill Fellow, Centennial Medallist and former Young South Australian of the Year for the Arts, and has received numerous accolades for her work including a Ruby Award for Innovation. Her work has been commissioned and presented by the Australia Council for the Arts; Arts SA, Tanzkommission, Zurich; Shanghai International Performing Arts Research Centre; World Dance Alliance and Cloud Gate 2; World Expo Shanghai and MA.Design Gallery; Videotage Hong Kong; Taipei Artist Village; International Festival of Scenography in China; and Moorilla Estate in Hobart.

Since 2003, she has collaborated with Composer and New Media Artist Alexander Waite Mitchell to further develop hybrid works. Phillips is internationally recognized for her innovation in projects incorporating movement and visualisation applications. As collaborators, Amanda and Alexander created Australia’s first full-dome dance film (Future Memory, 2009) that premiered at the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival. Their 3xperimentia project (2007-10), exploring 3D-stereo screen dance and live edit technologies, is critically acclaimed for its ground-breaking impact on perceived, and new, performance spaces.

ALEXANDER WAITE MITCHELL

Alexander is a Music producer, Composer, Multi-instrumentalist, Director of Photography, Video engineer, Technologist and Innovator – heralded as a “multimedia wonder”.

His artistic endeavours include the technical architecture and co-creation of pioneering works that are realised in partnership with Director Amanda Phillips. Projects include:- the award-winning “3xperimentia: Live Cut in 3D”; Australia’s first fulldome dance film “Future Memory”; and, the real-time public art work “MASS: Moving Audience Street Sculpture”. Alexander was technical architect for the Illuminart/Goyte installation “Fractured Heart”.

As a prize-winning graduate from Elder Conservatorium, his music is regarded as a “sonic tour de force”. Establishing significant creative partnerships with Choreographers and Directors including Leigh Warren, Xiao-Xiong Zhang, Peter Sheedy and Amanda Phillips, Alexander’s scores have premiered at The Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Film Festival, SALA, and in Asia – including the Australia Pavilion for the World Expo.

Alexander regularly composes for Performance, Film and Events and is equally in his element developing and realising multidisciplinary projects.
